The Grassmarket is located
directly south-east of Edinburgh Castle and comprises of what was in past centuries one of Edinburgh's main markets,
as well as the setting for public executions. The old market area is today surrounded by restaurants, bars, and
an eccletic mix of small specialist retail shops. It is a vibrant area which has recently been re-developed into a pedestrian
friendly area - but still retrains ample parking for vistors. In the summer months, what better spot to sit outside at
a table, have a drink and a bite to eat and simply watch the world go by!. Indeed it was at the White Hart Inn in the
Grassmarket that the poet Robert Burns chose to stay when he visited Edinburgh. The Grassmarket was also the
birthplace of the father of Scottish landscape painting, Alexander Nasmyth.
