Herbert Johson Harvey (1884 - 1928)

Rare etching "A Child of the Ballet".

Harvey produced only 35 etching plates in his short lifetime.

LARGE 18th century engraving: Nicolas Delaunay (1739 - 1792) after Sir Peter Paul Rubens: "Marche de Selene"
£275 (unframed). 
 
This engraving is in reverse of the painting now in the National Gallery, London "Drunken Silenus Supported by Satyrs" (there attributed to Anthony Van Dyck). A similar composition is in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich.

 
Watercolour of Mykonos by the Scottish architect Alan Reiach. Signed and dated 1954: £160

Alan Reiach (1910 - 1992) was a leading Scottish architect and urban planner. He initially trained in the office of Sir Robert Lorimer. His best known architectural designs are Edinburgh University's Appleton Tower in George Square (1963), and the New Club, Princes Street (1964).

Irene Segalla was born in Vienna. Examples of her costume designs are in the B. J. Simmons & Co. Costume Design Archive at the Harry Ransom Centre, The Univeristy of Texas, Austin. In the 1950s she designed a variety of costumes for theatrical productions in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Original 1930s watercolour and pencil costume study by Irene Segalla (who was the costume assistant on the 1953 film Genevieve).

This is one of a series of  lithographic posters from a series produced in the 1930s, when Shell patronised a number of young British artists, under the direction of their Director of Publicity, J.L. Beddington. See "The Thirties", Arts Council 1979-80 p. 211. Each print measured approximately 75 x 115 cm and all were singed in the block by the artist.

The Alhambra was on the corner of Springfield Street and Leith Walk. It opened in December 1914 as a music hall. Sadly the building was demolished in 1974.

Agnes Richardson 1885-1951 was born in Wimbledon and studied at the Lambeth School of Art. She was a painter, childrens's book illustrator, annuals, designer of greetings cards. Books illustrated include 'Alice in Wonderland' 1920, 'Golden Locks and Pretty Frocks' 1914. She is best know for her postcard designs of little curly-haired, chubby faced children.
